Troy started as a dancer at the age of 4. Training in classical styles of dance such as Latin, American and ballroom. He trained in many other styles throughout his time as a dancer, doing ballet, tap, modern jazz and disco.
Working his way through the grades with BATD and teaching his presidents award in Latin and ballroom. He then moved into the musical theatre world and started to perform on stage, doing shows for his dance school, college and amateur dramatic societies. Troy has performed in many shows over the years such as dirty dancing, hairspray and little shop of horrors.
Troy then went to college to learn musical theatre entering into a national diploma course. When he left college he received 3 distinctions in musical theatre and won an award for the highest grades in the county.
After that, Troy focused his ambitions on working in the West end, auditioning for stage and drama schools. Unfortunately he had to pull out due to a back injury. He wanted to stay in the theatre world so he turned his attention to the technical side, learning about sound lighting and stage management.
Troy has worked on many shows as a lighting designer and stage manager, such as Derran Brown, Jason Manford and the circus of horrors. Troy has also worked for Tony Peers productions as a stage manger and lighting designer for many pantomimes and summer shows. In addition to this, he has worked for Qdos Entertainment as an assistant electrician and PAT tester. He then moved into the prop making department and made props for some of the biggest pantomimes in the world. He also worked for Qdos as an technical assistant stage manager (ASM) working on huge production shows such as Cinderella and Robinson Crusoe operating massive special effects, like flying horse and carriages, flying cars and giant sea monsters.
Now Troy works for SB Academy teaching the musical theatre lessons, where we produce two musical theatre shows each year including a pantomime. To date Troy has Directed 4 Musical theatre Productions and pantomimes, and is on with his 5th ! It gives Troy the chance to pass on my experience and knowledge to the future generation that will grace our stages and TV’s with entertainment for years to come.
